Cake Decorating & Karaoke – November 2017

 In Residents Activities

A multisensory approach to interacting is particularly important when someone has dementia. This is because bright colours, interesting sounds and tactile objects can all catch their attention in a way that other activities, such as making conversation or reading, may not anymore. With that in mind we decided to spend an afternoon decorating cakes which the residents thoroughly enjoyed. It was a fantastic opportunity for residents to make and eat cakes together.

For the residents that did not want to partake in cake decoration there was ‘Karaoke’. Singing has also been shown to improve the quality of people with dementia.
